Auto Electricians what do they do?

Auto ElectricianAuto Electricians what do they do?

Auto Electricians are a niche area of the Motor services and Garage Repair industry.  Cars have both mechanical and electrical components inside of them. Electrics have become more & more complicated often requiring the services of an Auto Electrician.

So What do Auto Electricians do? cars have Charging systems, Lights, Electric windows, Central locking,  alarm systems, horns, airbags, abs and a multitude of modules and computers that make it run. This list is not complete it just highliights some electrical areas.  If it requires electricity/ power to run it, it will fall under an Auto Electricians remit.

Many Garages focus largely on the Mechanical repairs, replacing wear and tear items such as brakes, suspension,  clutches, steering and exhaust parts, again not a complete list just a few examples. Most Garages do not have their own Auto Electrician as part of their staff which is where we come into play, as not only do we provide our services direct to the public, but we offer support to many local garages as well.

A lot of mechanical parts can visually be seen as defective like worn brake pads and broken coil springs. Most electrical faults require diagnostics and testing to examine the vehicle and determine why the fault is present.

We frequently hear people say ive been on google and its says that its probably this. Unfortunatley this is often not the case, the number of times we have customers call and say google said it was this, so i replaced it and ive got the same problem still.

Its like anything you google, you will get a generic response not one thats specific to your vehicle. We specialise in Auto Electrics, so do this all day long and its not very often that we see two cars with identical faults, as there are too many variables to recreate the same faults.

For example:

3 cars present with a light unit not working. Upon investigation one vehicle has water ingress which has caused damage,  one has rodent damage to wires and one has just failed due to age.  Some would assume that because they all have the same fault the solution would be the same, but they need investigation to determine the cause, as the remedy would be different in each of these 3 scenarios.

So i guess the moral of the story is, if you have an Electrical problem with your car, seek help from an Auto Electrician to investigate the fault and get the most cost effective solution.

As in the case of the 3 cars above if they had all assumed that it was the light unit that was at fault only 1 of the vehicles would be fixed by replacing it and the other 2 would have spent hundreds of pounds on a part that they may not need.
